Chiron Return and Next Steps

sports-768430_1920Dear Cosmic Career Coach:  Thank you so much for the episode on Redesigning your Career in your 50’s. I held on to every word. I’ve always been an optimistic person, but this Chiron Return has turned my world upside down. In addition, transiting Saturn is conjunct my midheaven. One month ago, I was unexpectedly laid off from my job. Admittedly, it was unfulfilling work, but it paid the bills and gave me–a single person with no other income–stability. I feel this layoff and Chiron Rx time is a “call to authenticity”, yet I’m terrified I’m going to end up as a bag lady. My secret dream is to be a full time astrologer and tarot reading, and perhaps working in hospice or with the dying on the side (in a creative endeavor). But I’m stuck… a lot of this has to do with trying to keep tranquil while wondering how I’m going to pay the bills. And another part feels like this is the perfect kick in the pants to GET REAL. Can you help?  — J.B.

Hi JB,

Thanks very much for your question and our apologies for the delay in responding. We just finished presenting our webinar about how to include coaching in your astrological practice. If anyone is interested, recordings are available at http://www.astrocollege.com.
Yes, transiting Chiron is right on your natal Chiron so you’re in the midst of your return. That’s such an important phase in life that shows your values are shifting. Many people begin a search for more meaning in their careers.
Transiting Jupiter just entered Scorpio today after 13 months in Libra. It’s transiting your natal Mars. This is an excellent time for you to put energy into getting clear about what’s important to you, i.e., your values, talents, likes, dislikes. If you decide you want to get a job to keep money coming in until you get things figured out, now is a great time.
You obviously have a number of professions that appeal to you which is a great place to be. It sounds like your main challenge is whether or not to make the commitment to move forward doing what you want. Your fears are common so it’s important to ask yourself how real are they? Are they just fears or is there something else that needs to be considered?
What is it about astrology or tarot that appeals to you? How do you want to be of service to others and how does being an astrologer fit in with that? What are the similarities between astrology, tarot and hospice that you like? Find the common thread and it will help you move forward. There must be a number of very important core values that could be honored in those professions. Ideally you want to bring your own unique talents into whatever you decide to do in order to feel the most fulfilled.
Okay that brings us to your chart which is quite interesting with your Pisces stellium opposing PL cnj UR. Your chart not only shows a grand water trine but a kite pattern which is not all that common. A kite is called a kite because that’s exactly what it looks like. It occurs when a grand trine has a 4th planet that opposes 1 of the planets in the grand trine. The opposition gives the grand trine some energy and brings it to life. Grand water trines alone are generally quiet, receptive, intuitive, sensitive and indicate a tremendous amount of talent. The beauty of having a kite pattern is that the opposition causes friction which can feel like a tug of war sometimes. The opposing forces challenge you to show your talents to the world. Many times people with grand trines don’t capitalize on their talents because there’s not enough energy to force it. But the kite activates opportunities for creative expression in the world.
Many of your natal planets are pulled into this kite pattern. There are many ways you can express this energy. It’s visionary, intuitive and imaginative. It’s also healing, nurturing and compassionate.
Your natal Chiron is part of this pattern so with transiting Chiron returning to its natal position, it’s no wonder you’re searching for more meaning. Many of the qualities that are resident in this pattern are being triggered by transiting Chiron. Here are a few questions to consider:

• What are your natural talents?
• What is holding you back from showing them to the world?
• How do you want to show them to the world?
• What is the connection to astrology, tarot and hospice?
• If you had everything you needed, what would you do professionally? How can you do it anyway?

I hope this helps you with your decision making about next steps for your career.

Tom Chaplin

Second Act Careers

Question: I am recently retired.  I would like to start a new career and would love some direction.

Answer: Hi Angela.  Congratulations on your retirement.  The first step is to be very clear about your vision for yourself in retirement.  What does thFootsteps_morgueis look like?  How has it changed from your previous career?  What type of work – life balance are you seeking?  What are your professional, personal and monetary goals?  Many retirees are looking for a scaled back version to allow more leisure time.

Once your vision is clear, you may begin to explore various careers that fit the bill, keeping in mind of course there are certain roles that will resonate while others do not.  There are several key stand outs in your chart that may help with your search.   Uranus is powerfully placed on your Ascendant, suggesting you approach life in a very unique way.  This is such an important planet for you that I want to focus on it a minute.  It suggests the tendency towards a progressive, all inclusive approach to life.  Variety is very important to you as well. Anything that becomes routine has long outlived its purpose as far as you’re concerned.  You value growth and mental stimulation which are two critical ingredients to anything you do.  Uranus also rules the metaphysical including astrology so connecting with that energy would more than likely resonate very well with you.

Another key point to mention is your Leo stellium.  A stellium is three or more planets falling in the same sign, in your case Leo.  This shows a highly creative energy which I would imagine is one of your core values.  In fact you have such a powerful inner creative drive that others could be healed or transformed in some way by your creative expression.

The ability to heal also shows up with Chiron on your 7th house cusp.  You could teach as long as it somehow improved the wellbeing of others.  However, there’s a responsibility to others and tapping into the healing side of Chiron feels very right to me.  The shape of your chart is known as a bundle bucket.  Chiron is the handle of your bucket which means there’s a tremendous amount of energy radiating from the rest of your chart and being funneled through Chiron.  That’s a significant indicator for healing others!

One last item to mention is your Saturn – Neptune conjunction.   Like any conjunction, the planets are looking for a comfortable way to join forces.  This conjunction shows you have the ability to make the imaginary real and turn dreams into something tangible.  You could also look at this as applying spirituality in very real, meaningful ways to everyday life, perhaps showing or teaching others what you already know to be true.

Okay Angela. Hope you are loving your retirement so far. Thanks very much for visiting Your Cosmic Career Coach.

Preparing for Career Post Retirement

personsunsetQuestion: I started out my career as a public servant working for the US Government; after about 12 years I entered the commercial world as a Technical Recruiter and have been doing that for 30 years. I plan to retire in the next 4-6 years and I plan to continue working after I retire. My question is, what should I be doing NOW to prepare for my third career after retirement. – Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for your question. This is an excellent time to prepare for a new, exciting career. Careers in post retirement can be very rewarding and contribute to making this phase of your life an exciting journey.

The most important question of course is your vision you hold for yourself post retirement.  If you don’t know, start connecting with what excites you. Let the energy of what excites you be your guide. If you have something specific in mind already, how does it connect with your overall vision?

I recommend you start by making a list of the skills and strengths you’ve developed throughout your career. Get a colleague’s perspective and ask them how they see your strengths. Your chart suggests a very strong tendency towards being able to influence others, with your 12th house Pluto so close to your Leo Ascendant. Pluto in the chart is about power and influence as well as what needs to transform. A post retirement career is a wonderful opportunity for you to transform your identity and create a whole new means of self expression.  Start now by changing things about your appearance and the way you interact with the world. Find out what resonates and what doesn’t. The external changes you implement can activate internal transformation and help move you forward. There’s a great deal of magnetism with Pluto on your Ascendant so please take advantage of it.

Another thing that jumps out about your chart is your natural ability to be very service oriented. Certainly in your career as a technical recruiter service to others has been a driving force. You may want to explore different ways you can be of service to others.

You have another very interesting dynamic in your chart. Neptune conjuncts Saturn and both oppose a conjunction of Mars and Venus. Although this certainly can present challenges, the underlying strength is your creative imagination. Anything creative, imaginative or visual you choose to do should come fairly easily and only get stronger as you continue to work with it. This alone could indicate an entirely new path where you’re doing something creative. What creative talents or beautification projects do you enjoy now? What do you like to create? Any hobbies you can expand upon? A few ideas might be gardening, photography, painting, writing or even working as a stager.   A stager would be an ideal way to not only influence others but influence through your own creative vision.   If nothing else, finding a means of expressing your creative energy would be a very nice, peaceful outlet for you.

With both your Sun and Moon in Pisces, you’re a double Pisces. Both are in the 7th and 8th houses which shows the need to be working with others. Other people are important. It’s an excellent placement for working with clients. You genuinely care about improving the lives and well-being of others. With all this Pisces energy, you have the ability to connect with people in a right brain, intuitive manner. You can sense what others’ need and be of service to them. Take this energy out into the world. The world needs people like you!

I want to conclude with a very powerful and lucky placement you have. Jupiter is your most elevated planet sitting only a few degrees from your MC – your profession.   This is professional luck, fun and the need to expand through one’s own experiences. Have you thought about a career in travel?

I hope this helps. Good luck on your journey!
